| RESUME TIPS |
| |
Benefits to the company
Always write your resume in chronological format. Functional resumes drive recruiters and managers crazy. They want to know what you did specifically at each company. With a
functional resume it is very difficult for the reader to understand if your experience is from six months ago or six years ago. They are not going to call you to find out either.
Long verses Short
More is better than less. Unless you are being referred an employer knows absolutely nothing about you. Resumes are read literally. If it is not on paper it is assumed you don’t have whatever skill or experience they are seeking. Focus most of your efforts on your last two jobs. This is where your most relevant and recent experience should come from.
Customization
When answering an add or applying to a company you should spend time to finding out what they are seeking. Look carefully at the requirements and make sure what they are looking for is on your resume.
Accomplishments
List tangible accomplishments from each employer. How much did you increase revenues, decrease costs, increased efficiency, reduced turn over, expanded market share, etc…
Critical Information
The type of and size of companies you have worked for is information that should be pointed out on your resume such as company size, are they public, private, how many employees, revenues, industry, parent, subsidiary, products and who they sell to.
